Darcy Ribeiro (Montes Claros, 26 de outubro de 1922 ) foi um antropólogo, historiador, sociólogo escritor e político brasileiro, conhecido por seu foco em relação aos indígenas e à educação no país.
Suas ideias de identidade latino-americana influenciaram vários estudiosos latino-americanos posteriores. Como Ministro da Educação do Brasil realizou profundas reformas, o que o levou a ser convidado a participar de reformas universitárias no Chile, Peru, Venezuela, México e Uruguai, depois de deixar o Brasil devido à ditadura militar de 1964. Foi casado com a etnóloga e antropóloga Berta Gleizer Ribeiro, até 1974.

Darcy Ribeiro começou sua vida profissional como antropólogo do Serviço de Proteção aos Índios, onde criou o Museu do Índio e, em parceria com os irmãos Villas-Boas, formulou o Parque Indígena do Xingu. No mesmo período, conheceu e se casou com Berta Gleizer, que se tornaria uma grande parceira intelectual. Posteriormente, ingressa na área educacional e formula o projeto de criação da Universidade de Brasília.
Em sua trajetória política, foi ministro da Educação e ministro-chefe da Casa Civil durante o governo de João Goulart, vice-governador do Rio de Janeiro, em 1982, durante do governo de Leonel Brizola, secretário de Cultura e coordenador do Programa Especial de Educação e senador da República de 1991 até sua morte, em 1997.
Durante seu exílio, em diversos países da América Latina, atuou como pesquisador, professor e reformador de universidades. Nesse período, iniciou uma intensa produção de livros que o transformou em um dos imortais da Academia Brasileira de Letras (ABL), onde viria a ocupar a cadeira 11 em 1993. Nos últimos anos de vida surpreendeu com sua produção de poemas.
Sua produção na área da educação e da cultura deixou marcas no país: criou universidades, centros culturais e uma nova proposta educativa com destaque para a idealização dos Centros Integrados de Educação Pública (Cieps), concebidos com a parceria de Leonel Brizola e Oscar Niemeyer, além de deixar inúmeras obras traduzidas para diversos idiomas.
