Uma verdadeira multidão foi à famosa esquina das ruas Divinópolis com a Paraisópolis, no bairro Santa Tereza, em Belo Horizonte, na noite desta segunda-feira (3), para se despedir e homenagear o cantor e compositor Lô Borges, morto no último domingo.
Em um clima de muita comoção, amigos e admiradores do artista cantaram e tocaram durante várias horas as suas canções. Desde às 18h, pessoas chegavam de todas as partes para acompanhar o evento, em um pequeno palco montado sob uma tenda. Uma verdadeira fila de músicos fez questão de passar por lá para se apresentar e homenagear o icônico artista.
Durante todo o dia, centenas de pessoas passaram pelo local, que ficou conhecido mundialmente como o Clube da Esquina, graças a músicos como Lô Borges, Milton Nascimento, Beto Guedes, Toninho Horta, Tavinho Moura entre muito outros, para deixar flores no local.
O evento foi organizado espontaneamente por vários coletivos de Belo Horizonte. No local foi colocada uma foto em preto e branco de Lô ao lado das placas que já existem por lá demarcado a esquina. Em uma janela lateral foi pendurada uma faixa amarela com os dizeres: “Celebramos a vida e a arte de Lô Borges”.

A morte
O cantor e compositor Lô Borges morreu na noite deste domingo (2), aos 73 anos, em Belo Horizonte. A informação foi confirmada pela família do artista.
Internado desde 17 de outubro em uma UTI, Lô foi hospitalizado após uma intoxicação por medicamentos e chegou a ser submetido a ventilação mecânica. No dia 25 de outubro, passou por uma traqueostomia, mas não resistiu às complicações do quadro.
Autor de clássicos como “Um Girassol da Cor do Seu Cabelo”, “O Trem Azul” e “Paisagem da Janela”, Lô Borges deixa uma obra que ajudou a redefinir os rumos da MPB ao lado de Milton Nascimento e outros integrantes do lendário Clube da Esquina.
Da escadaria ao Clube da Esquina
Nascido Salomão Borges Filho em Belo Horizonte, Lô era o sexto de 11 irmãos e cresceu no bairro Santa Tereza, berço do movimento que levaria o nome da esquina das ruas Divinópolis e Paraisópolis para o mundo.
A história de Lô com a música começou ainda na infância. Aos 10 anos, nas escadas do Edifício Levy, na Avenida Amazonas, conheceu o vizinho que mudaria sua vida — Milton Nascimento, então com 20.
“Sentei na escadaria, dei de cara com um carinha tocando violão, era o Bituca. Eu tinha 10 anos, ele tinha 20. Ele olhou pra mim e disse: ‘Você gosta de música, né, menino?’”, contou Lô em entrevista ao Conversa com Bial em 2023.
Pouco depois, ele também conheceu Beto Guedes, outro futuro parceiro, durante um encontro casual nas ruas do centro da capital mineira.
De volta a Santa Tereza, Lô passou a tocar com os irmãos e amigos. Milton, já famoso, continuava visitando a casa da família Borges. Foi assim que nasceu a parceria que daria origem ao disco “Clube da Esquina” (1972), considerado um divisor de águas na música brasileira.
Gravado quando Lô tinha apenas 19 anos, o álbum foi eleito, décadas depois, o maior disco brasileiro de todos os tempos e figura entre os dez melhores da história da música mundial, segundo a revista norte-americana Paste Magazine.
No mesmo ano, Lô lançou seu primeiro disco solo, o emblemático “Disco do Tênis”, símbolo de juventude e liberdade musical.
Entre pausas e renascimentos
O sucesso precoce levou o músico a uma reclusão voluntária. Lô passou um período vivendo em Arembepe (BA), afastado dos palcos, mas nunca da composição.
“Eu não parei de compor. As canções foram se avolumando na minha vida”, recordou.
Em 1978, ele retornou à cena com o álbum “Via Láctea”, que considerava um de seus trabalhos mais maduros. Nos anos 1980, lançou “Sonho Real” e realizou sua primeira turnê nacional.
Na década de 1990, uma nova geração redescobriu Lô graças à parceria com Samuel Rosa (Skank) em “Dois Rios”, que uniu o lirismo mineiro à sonoridade pop.
Nos últimos anos, o artista manteve uma rotina criativa intensa: desde 2019, lançava um álbum de inéditas por ano. Seu trabalho mais recente, “Céu de Giz”, em parceria com Zeca Baleiro, saiu em agosto de 2025
